We speak with Influencer and coach, Alex Swallow, about his life and work experiences and how living authentically is important for how he shows up and impacts his world. We get curious about what it means to be an authentic influencer: exploring the importance of aligning our values with our actions, staying true to your purpose, choosing to live in fulfillment, and how - as coaches - doing our own personal work is just as important as supporting others to do theirs.
Presence is foundational to deep and effective listening, as well as asking powerful, thought-provoking questions that provoke deeper insights, ideas, and new ways of being and doing. By practicing deep presence, we become better receptors—not only for the words we hear and how they are shared, but also for powerful non-verbal, unconscious language. With this awareness, we can support our client to create curiosity, understanding, new choices and therefore change experiences. In this podcast we share what deep presence is, how it can support our clients and what we can do to create that presence.
We dive into the art of embracing cultural differences in coaching practices to connect deeply with coaching clients from diverse backgrounds. This means understanding and honouring the unique cultural perspectives that shape their identities, values, and visions of fulfilment as well as exploring traditions, such as spiritual and well-being practices and culturally significant processes.
Learn how you can build curiosity and respect into your coaching process by encouraging open conversations about how cultural influences impact your clients' views of the world, success, and personal growth.
Some rules guide us positively, while others can hold us back from becoming highly effective coaches. New coaches often create stories about needing to follow a process or use a tool, ask complicated questions, complete numerous coaching courses, or even build a website and have business cards, etcetera, which can prevent them from coaching in a way that truly embodies the core competencies of coaching—the ways of being and doing as a coach—that foster transformation and life-changing experiences. In this podcast, we discuss some of those rules and how to potentially move forward.

Coaches need to be aware of potential power dynamics in coaching because they can play a key role in shaping the coaching relationship and outcomes. Understanding these dynamics is essential to maintain an effective partnership between the coach and the client. Power imbalances arise due to many factors between the client and coach - including beliefs about self and others. They can impact communication, trust and a client's willingness to be open and engage in the coaching process, or a coach's ability to challenge and express what they are noticing. Coaches must be aware of themselves and the client's behavioural patterns to notice when dynamics come into play to ensure clients are served, heard and stretched in relation to their awareness so they can make empowering decisions.

Coaches can sometimes get caught up with trying to find powerful questions which can lead to greater insights, awareness and processing of experiences for the client but the coach can sometimes miss the clues the client is going deeper. Those clues may be very subtle but if the coach is paying close attention to their client they can continue to support the client even more powerfully. Find out what this means in this podcast episode with Marie and Jeanine.
Effective, powerful leadership and coaching are very interconnected. This is because coaching skills - such as holding space for people, deep listening, asking thought-provoking questions, effectively providing feedback, and getting curious about the person, team, ideas, emotions, energy, intuition, and much more - within systems support engagement, wisdom and inspiration to come together and find a way forward. Katie Mapondera shares some very interesting insights about what really effective leadership is through her own experiences and what she has learned.
